This tool visualises annual mapping outputs from the UK Marine Noise Registry (MNR), a service developed by Defra and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) to record human activities in UK seas that produce loud, low to medium frequency (10Hz - 10kHz) impulsive noise.
JNCC has published these outputs under the Open Government Licence via Data.gov.uk: 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
Attribution statement: contains data collated by JNCC and Oil and Gas Authority data © copyright and database right 2017-2023.
Please see the documentation in the JNCC downloads for more information about the data and the caveats that should be taken into account when interpreting the data. The data is presented on a coarse spatial scale and cannot be used to measure the impact of underwater noise on marine species or draw conclusions about whether Good Environmental Status (GES) has been met by the UK. Activity data for some noise events is not recorded in the MNR and the annual outputs are based only on activity data from close-out reports.
